I am trying to lose weight and to eat healthier.
My diet consists mostly of salads, juices and whole grain sandwiches.
But I am not losing weight and started having problems with my digestion.
Any suggestions?
From Chinese Medicine point of view the food you eat is considered cold, which damages your spleen channel or organ ( it is not the same in Western medicine). Spleen is responsible for digestion and is responsible for water metabolism to go up to the Lungs. If you make spleen “deficient” or weak, the first sign can be “dampness”, which means “stagnant water” that can not really move. It can be one of the problems why you are not losing weight and probably feel tired. Consider cooked vegetables, whole grain products, warm food, warm drinks, ginger tea to help with your digestion.
This is just a comment that I can make for this particular question not including your personal condition ( we always consider everything for any type of problem).
I was looking for some help losing my love handles. I was wondering about the ginger tea. Is any brand good or is there a particular one I should buy? And any suggestions on particular types of bread you are recommending, I mean are some grains better than others?
As for ginger tea , the best tea is from fresh grated ginger with honey added. If you are using bags, just be sure there are no additives in it. Bread is better from whole grain flour and with other whole grains added. it does not really matter as long as it is not white processed bread.
Whole grains are good if you take variety and unprocessed. To be sure you are getting the best out of it , try to use different grains and not stick just to one.
I personally use buckweat. brown rice, quinoa, corn, oatmeal. I like to add cooked vegetables to all of them to add some flavor and use mostly Braggs instead of salt.
Hello Nancy,
It is a common question that many students ask me after classes.
In my sessions I usually try to bring the attention to the neck. I constantly repeat about relaxing your neck and shoulders. Sometimes it is not that easy, so you have to adjust and use help like supporting your head with one hand.
Most of the time it is improper posture, so you have to be sure that your chest is lifted high enough and you have a space between you chin and your neck without tilting it in too much.
Another issue can be that your abdominal muscles or or your back muscles are not strong enough for certain exercises. In that case you need to work more on the strength of certain muscles before you involve your neck.
But in any case once you start feeling tension in your neck during performance of exercises be sure to take a break and then continue.
Hello, I am new to the Yoga world yet eager. I discovered it on my Wii. I have been using it everyday for a month now. For the past 3 or 4 days, I have started getting a burning feeling on the inside edge of my left knee. Is this a normal reaction? It seems to go away within a half an hour after I finish.
When you start yoga without a proper alignment and without an instructor who can correct you it can lead to many problems and injuries. Wii is not bad if you have taken yoga before and you know what to do. Otherwise yoga can become a start point of pains and discomfort instead of flexibility and strength.
try to take some classes with an instructor that can lead you through the poses and explain how it should feel during, before and after. Some “pains” are normal in yoga but they are not really pains, it is more about building up your endurance and flexibility. Just a good yoga teacher can help you with that and then you can start your own practice according to your personal knowledge.

Hello Olga,
I really enjoyed your Pilates classes.
I started feeling my neck more tense though. Any advice on that?
Thank you,
Nancy
